Manual URL Mode

Manual URL Mode is an Analysis Run setting where you hand RankGear an ordered list of URLs to measure yourself, rather than having it buy a live search results page from a SERP provider.

What it means in RankGear

When you start an Analysis Run, RankGear normally pulls the top results for a keyword from a search-data provider and scores them. Choosing “I’ll supply the URLs” turns that off: you paste or select the exact pages you want measured, in the order you want them treated as ranking, and RankGear runs the same 870-factor analysis against that fixed list. It is the right choice when you already know which competitors you care about, when you want to include pages that don’t currently rank, or when you want to re-measure the same set over time without a provider fetching a fresh SERP on every run.

How to interpret it

Read it as a workflow choice about inputs, not a different scoring engine. The factor analysis is identical to a provider-sourced run; the only thing that changes is where the URL list comes from. Because you control the ordering, confirm that the order reflects the comparison you actually intend — real search position versus an arbitrary paste order — check that the run completed against every URL you supplied, and make sure the report you are reading is the one tied to this manual set.

Manual URL ModeYou supply the ordered list; RankGear scores exactly those pages, in that order.

Example

Say you are optimizing a services page and you already know the five competitors ranking above you for “commercial roof coating.” Instead of letting RankGear buy the live SERP, you choose “I’ll supply the URLs,” paste those five competitor URLs plus your own page, and run the analysis. RankGear scores all six against the 870 factors so you can see where your page’s structure, entities, and content depth diverge from the set you chose — and because the list is fixed, you can rerun the same six pages next month to watch the gap close.

Important considerations

  • Manual URL Mode describes how a run is fed, not a ranking signal — supplying a page in this mode does nothing to its position in Google.
  • The order you paste is the order RankGear treats as the ranking; if you want the analysis to reflect real search positions, set that order to match live SERP results yourself.
  • Factor values are comparative indicators across the pages in your list, not Google’s own scores. A higher measured value shows correlation within the set you chose, not proof that a change causes ranking movement.
  • Because no provider SERP is fetched, the results won’t reflect live ranking changes unless you refresh the URL list yourself.
