Action Plan

An Action Plan is the prioritized list of concrete changes RankGear surfaces in a workbook — the measured gaps between your page and the pages you are competing with, ordered by which ones are worth acting on first.

What it means in RankGear

The Action Plan lives inside a workbook, alongside the target page you are trying to improve and the comparison set of pages already ranking for the query. Rather than leaving you to read every factor score by hand, RankGear translates the measured deficits — places where your page sits away from the competitive pattern — into a shortlist of things you can actually change: a word count that runs short of the group, a missing heading structure, thin coverage of a topic the ranking set shares. Each item ties back to a real measurement, so the plan is a reading of your data, not a generic checklist.

How to interpret it

Read the Action Plan next to the page it describes and the comparison set it was built from, not on its own. The order reflects the size and confidence of each measured gap against that specific group of competitors, so the same page checked against a different query or a different set of rivals can produce a different plan. Work the higher-priority items first, but treat every recommendation as a hypothesis drawn from the current SERP: it points to where your page differs from what is ranking, not to a guaranteed cause of position. No single item should be chased in isolation from the deficit strategy and the correlation behind it.

Example

You are optimizing a guide targeting “best trail running shoes.” RankGear measures your page against the ten pages currently ranking and finds your body copy sits well below the group median and your page never names three subtopics every competitor covers. The Action Plan lists those as its top items — expand the thin sections, add the missing subtopics — ahead of smaller gaps like a slightly shorter title. You act on the top of the list, re-run the analysis, and watch the deficits close.

Important considerations

  • Recommendations are evidence from the measured SERP for your query, not a universal rule that applies to every page or niche.
  • A gap the plan flags is a correlation with what currently ranks — closing it is not proof it caused the ranking, and acting on it will not by itself guarantee movement.
  • The plan is only as relevant as its inputs: the target page, the query, and the comparison set. Change any of those and the priorities can shift.
  • Provider and factor measurements are comparative indicators of how your page differs from competitors, not scores Google assigns.
