Has JSON-LD Quotation

Has JSON-LD Quotation reports whether RankGear finds a Quotation value for @type in a page’s raw HTML source. It is a binary signal (1 = present, 0 = absent) detected by pattern-matching text, not by validating the structured-data graph — a match confirms the string exists, not that the markup is valid.

What it measures

This factor reports whether RankGear finds an @type value of Quotation in a page’s raw source. The Quotation schema type describes a genuine quotation — the exact quoted text together with its speaker or creator, source work, citation, and date. The factor answers one yes/no question: does that type appear in the markup at all?

How RankGear measures it

RankGear searches the raw HTML for "@type": "Quotation", allowing flexible whitespace around the colon and optionally permitting a schema: prefix. Matching is case-sensitive: the source must use the exact capitalization Quotation. If the pattern is found the factor returns 1; otherwise it returns 0.

What RankGear looks for

<script type="application/ld+json">
{
  "@context": "https://schema.org",
  "@type": "Quotation",
  "text": "The quoted words, exactly as spoken.",
  "spokenByCharacter": "Speaker Name",
  "creator": "Source Author",
  "citation": "Source Work",
  "datePublished": "2026-01-01"
}
</script>
ValueMeaning
1The exact string "@type": "Quotation" (with an optional schema: prefix) was found in the raw HTML.
0No matching string was found — the type is absent, spelled differently, or capitalized differently.

How to optimize it

Use Quotation only for a genuine quotation — one with exact quoted text, a speaker or creator, the source work, a citation, and a date where known. Ensure every property reflects content users can actually verify on the page. Treat this factor as an observation of what your markup contains rather than a target to chase: adding the type where no real quotation exists misrepresents the page and adds nothing.

Important considerations

  • The detector pattern-matches source text instead of validating a JSON-LD graph, so it confirms the string is present, not that the structured data is well-formed.
  • A matching string that sits outside valid JSON-LD — in a comment, a code sample, or an escaped snippet — can still produce a 1.
  • The source must use the exact capitalization Quotation; variants such as quotation or QUOTATION will not match.
  • Validate the complete structured data independently with a schema testing tool.
  • This is a prioritization signal that relates to how pages sit within a measured result set. It does not on its own cause a page to rank, and correlation is not causation.
