What it measures
Number of Prices counts occurrences of the dollar, euro, and pound currency symbols in a page’s rendered HTML. It is a rough gauge of price-reference volume — how often the page points at a price — rather than a parse of complete, structured prices. A symbol is counted wherever it appears; the factor does not tie a symbol to the numeric amount beside it.
How RankGear measures it
RankGear counts the $, €, and £ characters across the complete rendered HTML using a legacy split-based method. Because that method can undercount trailing matches, the total can differ from a plain character count of the same symbols. The count records only that a currency symbol is present; it does not associate the symbol with any numeric value, product, or offer.

Do not repeat prices or scatter extra currency symbols to push the count up — that adds no value for the reader and the count is only a proxy for how the page references prices.
Important considerations
- Currency symbols inside scripts or templates can be counted even when they are not visible prices.
- Prices written without a $, €, or £ symbol are missed entirely.
- The factor does not verify a price’s amount, availability, or accuracy — only that a symbol is present.
- Let the page’s commercial intent decide how much pricing belongs on it; a count is not a target.
