Number of Social Accounts

Number of Social Accounts counts how many recognized social-profile URLs appear in a page’s rendered body — Facebook, legacy Google Plus, Twitter/X, personal LinkedIn, and legacy YouTube user links — and returns a single tally. It counts matching text, not verified profiles or engagement, so a higher number is not by itself an SEO improvement.

What it measures

This factor sums URL-pattern matches for a fixed group of networks: Facebook, legacy Google Plus, Twitter/X, personal LinkedIn, and legacy YouTube user URLs. Every matching link in the rendered body adds to the count, so the value is the total number of recognized social-profile URLs on the page rather than the number of distinct networks or unique accounts.

How RankGear measures it

RankGear runs a case-insensitive group of network-specific regular expressions over the script-free body and adds every match across the group. Scripts are stripped first, so the count reflects links present in the rendered HTML, and each pattern hit — including repeats of the same profile — increments the total independently.

How to optimize it

Include genuine social profiles only when they are active, relevant, and useful to visitors. Remove obsolete destinations, and use current canonical profile or sharing URLs even when the legacy detectors do not recognize them. Treat the number as an observation about which links this factor happens to match, not a target to inflate — a newer URL form that visitors reach fine may simply go uncounted here.

Important considerations

  • The pattern groups include legacy URL shapes and, in some cases, discontinued Google Plus patterns.
  • This counts matching text, not unique verified profiles, successful shares, or engagement quality.
  • A URL can be missed if it uses a newer, unsupported form.
  • Adding more social links is not inherently an SEO improvement.
  • This factor relates to how pages within a measured result set compare; it is a prioritization signal, not a cause of ranking, and no count guarantees a position.
