Title Keyword Count is the number of keyword-variation occurrences RankGear finds in a page’s title. It is a descriptive count of how often your tracked terms appear in the title, not a target to maximize — a higher number often signals repetition rather than a better title.

What it measures
This factor counts how many times any keyword variation appears in the page title. It works from the run’s variation set — the primary keyword plus the related terms and forms tracked for that analysis — and reports the total number of matches found in the title text.
How RankGear measures it
RankGear scans the title with case-insensitive, whole-word matching against the run’s variation set. It processes the longer terms first and consumes each match so overlapping phrases are not counted more than once, then returns the total number of variation occurrences in the title.
| Count | What it suggests |
|---|---|
| 0 | No tracked variation appears in the title. The title may not clearly signal the page’s topic. |
| 1 | The primary keyword or a close variation is present once — the typical shape of a clear, distinctive title. |
| 2 or more | Multiple variation matches. This can read as repetition or stuffing rather than a stronger title. |
How to optimize it
Include the primary keyword or the best-aligned variation once in a clear, distinctive title that communicates value and intent. Treat this factor as an observation about the current title, not a number to push up: the goal is a title that reads well for a person, not a higher count. If the count is 0, work the most relevant term in naturally; if it is high, check whether the title is repeating itself.
Important considerations
- Overlapping phrases are not double-counted — a longer term claims its words before shorter variations are matched.
- A higher count can indicate repetition rather than improvement.
- Search snippets may rewrite the displayed title, so what a user sees can differ from the title RankGear measures.
- Keep the title useful to people, not just to the factor.
- This is a measured signal that relates to position within a result set, not a cause of ranking. It describes the title; it does not guarantee any placement.
