Has Video

Has Video reports whether RankGear finds at least one supported YouTube or Vimeo embed URL pattern in the rendered page body: 1 means a supported pattern was found, 0 means it was not. A 0 does not prove the page has no video, and a 1 does not confirm playback actually works — it detects specific embed patterns, nothing more.

What it measures

Has Video reports whether RankGear detects at least one supported YouTube or Vimeo embed URL pattern in the rendered page body. A value of 1 means a supported pattern was found; a value of 0 means neither was found. The factor does not detect every video platform or implementation, and it does not judge video quality, relevance, accessibility, playback, or engagement — it is a presence signal for two specific embed formats, not a measure of whether video helps the page.

How RankGear measures it

RankGear searches the script-free body HTML, case-insensitively, for the standard YouTube embed path www.youtube.com/embed or the Vimeo player path player.vimeo.com/video. Finding either pattern returns 1. Self-hosted video, alternate hosts, privacy-enhanced YouTube domains, dynamically unavailable markup, and other embed formats may return 0.

<iframe src="https://player.vimeo.com/video/VIDEO_ID"></iframe>
ValueMeaning
1A supported YouTube (www.youtube.com/embed) or Vimeo (player.vimeo.com/video) embed pattern was found in the script-free body HTML.
0Neither supported pattern was found. The page may still contain self-hosted, alternate-host, privacy-enhanced, or dynamically loaded video the detector does not recognize.

How to optimize it

Treat this as an observation about your page, not a target to chase. Add video when it genuinely improves the page — for example, by demonstrating a process, showing a product, explaining a difficult concept, documenting evidence, or serving users who prefer audiovisual material. When you do embed video, give it a descriptive title, captions or transcripts, accessible controls, a useful poster image, and surrounding text that explains the video’s purpose, and optimize loading so the embed does not unnecessarily delay the page. Use competitor evidence and search intent to decide whether video belongs at all, rather than adding it by default to flip this factor to 1.

Important considerations

  • The detector only recognizes specific YouTube and Vimeo URL patterns.
  • A value of 0 does not prove that the page has no playable video.
  • A value of 1 does not confirm that playback works.
  • Video can improve usefulness while also adding performance and privacy costs.
  • Use competitor evidence and search intent rather than adding video by default.
  • This factor tracks how a page relates to others in a measured result set; it is a prioritization signal, not proof that video causes or guarantees a ranking.
