A SERP provider is the external search-data service RankGear calls to fetch ranked organic results for the keywords you analyze.

What it means in RankGear
RankGear does not read Google directly. It delegates result retrieval to whichever SERP provider you configure in Settings → APIs. When an Analysis Run starts, RankGear sends each query and its localization parameters to that provider, then measures the organic listings that come back against its 870 factors. The provider is therefore the source of every ranking position and page RankGear evaluates for that run.
How to interpret it
Treat the provider as a variable, not a constant. Two Analysis Runs are only comparable when they used the same provider under the same country, language, device, location, and requested depth, and when both responses came back complete. A change in any of those quietly changes the result set, so confirm them before reading one run against another.
| Parameter | What it controls |
|---|---|
| Provider | Which service returned the results; different providers can return different sets for the same query. |
| Country / language | The market and locale the results are drawn from. |
| Device | Desktop vs. mobile result layout and ordering. |
| Location | City- or region-level personalization of the results. |
| Requested depth | How far down the rankings the run reaches (for example Top 10 vs. Top 20). |
| Completeness | Whether the provider returned the full requested set or fell back to fewer results. |
Example
You run a Top 20 analysis for “commercial roofing Denver” localized to the United States, English, desktop, and Denver. Reaching twenty results may take several provider calls, but every call has to carry the same localization. If one call falls back to a national result set, the positions shift and that run can no longer be compared cleanly against an earlier Denver run.
Important considerations
- Search results are volatile: they change over time and by location, device, provider, and personalization context, so a run is a snapshot rather than a fixed truth.
- Different providers can return slightly different result sets for the same query; keep the provider consistent across the runs you intend to compare.
- Provider metrics are comparative indicators across your own runs, not Google’s scores. Matching the attributes of a top-ranked page does not cause a page to rank.
