What it means in RankGear
When RankGear finishes an analysis it writes the results into a workbook, and the Details Sheet is the tab that documents the run itself rather than the scores. It holds the configuration you chose (keyword, location, device, provider selections), the collection metadata each provider returned, and the status of every page RankGear tried to fetch. If a competitor page failed to load or a provider returned partial data, that is recorded here. Think of it as the run’s provenance record: it tells you what was measured, under what settings, and whether anything went wrong along the way.
How to interpret it
Read the opening summary and any legend first so you know what the run covered, then trace individual items back into the results and page-analysis sheets. The most useful signal on this tab is page status: pages marked as errored, redirected, or empty were not measured the same way as pages that loaded cleanly, so any factor comparison involving them deserves a second look. When you share or archive a workbook, keep the Details Sheet with it. Without the run configuration, a later reader cannot tell whether two workbooks are comparable or were built under different settings.
Example
You run an analysis for “managed IT services” targeting desktop results in Dallas. The workbook’s score looks lower than you expected, so you open the Details Sheet. It shows that two of the top ten competitor pages returned a 403 status and were skipped during collection. That explains the thinner comparison set, and it tells you to re-run with those pages excluded or to weight the result accordingly rather than treating the score as final.
Important considerations
- A workbook is a snapshot of one run at one moment. The Details Sheet fixes the settings for that snapshot, so compare only workbooks built under like-for-like configuration.
- Page status matters: errored, blocked, or empty pages were not measured cleanly, and including them can distort a comparison.
- Provider collection metadata describes how third-party data was gathered. Provider metrics are comparative indicators, not Google’s own scores, and correlation across pages is not proof that any single factor causes ranking.
- Formatting and layout on the sheet are for readability only. Do not treat the presence of a well-formatted report as additional evidence about a page.
