A measured factor is one of RankGear’s ranking factors that actually produced a value for the current analysis run, rather than sitting unused in the reference catalog. If a factor returned a real number for your target page and its comparison set, it counts as measured.

What it means in RankGear
RankGear carries a large reference catalog of ranking factors, but not every one of them yields data on every run. A measured factor is any factor that RankGear was able to evaluate for the pages in the current analysis, producing a concrete value you can see in the results and workbook. The distinction matters because your analysis is built only from the factors that returned data for this specific SERP and comparison set — the measured ones — not from the entire catalog in the abstract.
How to interpret it
Treat the measured factors as the working evidence for a run. A factor that stayed unmeasured contributes nothing to that run’s recommendations, so read each measured factor beside the target page, the comparison set, the selected deficit strategy, and its supporting correlation. Because coverage varies from one query to the next, the set of measured factors will differ between analyses; don’t assume a factor that mattered last time was even evaluated this time. No single measured value should be optimized on its own — it is one signal among many.
Example
You analyze a service page targeting “emergency plumber near me.” On that run RankGear measures word count, heading depth, and internal link count for your page and the top competitors, returning values for each — those are measured factors. A schema-specific factor that none of the compared pages implemented returns no value and stays unmeasured, so it plays no part in that run’s prioritized gaps. If your measured word count sits well below the comparison group, RankGear can turn that measured gap into a ranked action item.
Important considerations
- A factor being measured means only that it produced a value this run — it does not mean the factor is important for the query or that changing it will move rankings.
- The measured set changes run to run as SERPs and comparison pages change; coverage is not fixed.
- Measured values describe the SERP RankGear sampled. They are comparative indicators, not Google’s own scores, and correlation with higher-ranking pages is not proof of causation.
