What it measures
Has Comment CTA indicates whether the page includes a recognized invitation to leave or submit a comment. It is a presence check on the page’s visible copy: does the reader see a prompt that asks them to join the discussion? The factor speaks only to that wording being present — not to the quality, activity, or existence of the underlying commenting feature.
How RankGear measures it
RankGear scans the rendered, script-free page body and searches case-insensitively for a fixed set of comment-invitation phrases, allowing flexible whitespace between words. The phrase set includes “leave a comment,” “enter your comment,” “post a comment,” “sign in to comment,” “submit comment,” and “leave a reply.” A match on any one of these returns 1; if none appear, the factor returns 0. Because matching is limited to this fixed set, wording outside it — however clearly it invites a comment — is not counted.

How to optimize it
Treat this as an observation about your page copy, not a target to chase. Use a clear comment invitation when an active discussion feature genuinely supports the page’s goals: set expectations for what belongs in the thread, make authentication and submission understandable, and provide moderation and privacy guidance. If you do use an invitation, phrasing it in the recognized language (“leave a comment,” “leave a reply,” “post a comment”) is what the factor will register — but the point is a usable discussion for readers, not a flipped bit.
Important considerations
- The factor detects wording, not a working comment system — a page can score 1 with no functioning comments behind it.
- Alternative CTA language may score 0 even when it clearly invites a comment, because matching is limited to a fixed phrase set.
- A comment CTA without moderation or timely response can harm trust rather than help it.
- Do not add a comment invitation solely to raise this factor. It is a prioritization signal that relates to position within a measured result set — it does not cause a page to rank, and adding hollow copy earns nothing.
