Search Result Domain Has Numbers

This factor reports whether a ranking result’s entire domain name is exactly one digit. It returns a binary 1 or 0, and because the whole domain must match a single digit, essentially every real-world domain scores 0 — including domains that legitimately contain numbers.

What it measures

For each result in a measured SERP set, RankGear derives the domain from the result URL and checks a single condition: whether the entire stored domain name is exactly one digit. It is a presence flag, not a count — it does not tally how many numbers appear, or where they appear, inside the domain.

How RankGear measures it

RankGear applies the legacy full-string regular expression \d against the stored domain. Because the match is anchored to the whole string rather than a substring search, the domain has to be a single digit for the factor to return 1. As a result, realistic domains score 0 even when they contain numbers — the pattern never matches a multi-character domain. This behavior intentionally preserves the published legacy math so scores stay comparable across versions.

How to optimize it

Do not change a domain to move this factor. The live, legacy-compatible implementation is effectively constant for valid real-world domains, so it returns 0 regardless of the digits in your domain. Treat it as an observed field in the result set, not a target to chase.

Important considerations

  • Despite the display name, this does not search for a number anywhere in a domain — it tests whether the whole domain is a single digit.
  • A normal domain that contains digits still returns 0.
  • The behavior intentionally preserves published legacy math so historical scores remain comparable.
  • Domain decisions should be driven by brand, trust, and migration risk — not by this factor.
  • Correlation is not causation: this flag describes a domain characteristic within a measured result set and does not, on its own, move or guarantee a ranking position.
