Facebook Total Count is the total number of Facebook interactions reported for a result. RankGear reads it from an optional field supplied per result and returns that integer, using 0 when no value is present — so a 0 can mean genuinely no activity or simply no data.

What it measures
This factor reports the total Facebook interaction count supplied for the result. It is an off-page social signal attached to the result as a whole, not something read from the page’s own markup, so it reflects activity recorded elsewhere and passed in alongside the result.
How RankGear measures it
RankGear reads the corresponding optional field on the SearchResult and returns its integer value. When that field is missing, the factor becomes 0. No fetching, parsing, or estimation happens here — RankGear simply surfaces the number provided and substitutes 0 in its absence.
| Value | How to read it |
|---|---|
| Greater than 0 | The provider reported that many Facebook interactions for this result. |
| 0 | Ambiguous: either zero recorded activity, or the field was absent and no data was available. |
How to optimize it
Treat this value as an observation about the result, not a dial you turn directly. Where Facebook is relevant to the audience, earn genuine engagement by publishing useful content and making sharing convenient. There is no markup or on-page change that sets this number — it reflects real interaction recorded by the provider.
Important considerations
- The value comes from an external provider or run data, not from the page HTML.
- A 0 can mean zero activity or pages, or simply that the data was unavailable.
- Counts can be stale, sampled, URL-specific, or dependent on which provider supplied them.
- Correlation does not prove that increasing this metric will improve rank — it is a prioritization signal within a measured result set, not a cause of position.
