What it measures
This factor counts the questions parsed from a page’s H3 headings. Every H3 whose text is recognized as a question adds to the total, so the value describes how much of a page’s third-level subheading structure is framed as questions rather than statements. It is a structural count of the H3 zone alone — H1, H2, body text, and other headings are outside its scope.

Use an H3 question for a specific supporting concern only when the subsection beneath it supplies a genuinely useful answer. Treat the count as an observation about your subheading structure, not a target to inflate: adding question-form H3s that no content resolves does not improve the page. Let real supporting questions in your outline drive the number, and read the metric to check that those questions surfaced in the H3 zone as intended.
Important considerations
- The count is not capped — there is no threshold the factor rewards, so a higher number is not automatically better.
- Parser recognition determines what qualifies; a heading the parser does not read as a question is not counted, even if it reads like one to a person.
- The metric does not assess topical importance — it counts question-form H3s without judging whether those questions matter to the page’s subject.
- Maintain a coherent heading hierarchy so H3s sit properly under their parent H2s; the count is only meaningful when the H3 zone is used as intended.
