Number of H6 Tags

Number of H6 Tags counts the recognized <h6> elements in a page’s body HTML after scripts are stripped out. It is a simple structural tally — the deepest standard heading level — and for most pages a count of zero is perfectly normal.

What it measures

This factor counts the recognized H6 elements present in the body HTML after script content has been excluded. H6 is the sixth and deepest level in the standard heading hierarchy, sitting beneath H1 through H5. The metric reflects how many times that deepest level appears on the page — nothing about the words inside those headings, only their presence as structure.

RankGear scans the script-free body with its compatibility H6 parser and totals the matched H6 opening-and-closing tag pairs. Scripts are removed first so that markup written inside inline JavaScript is not mistaken for real headings, and only complete open/close pairs are counted.

How to optimize it

Reserve H6 for content that is genuinely nested beneath an H5 and benefits from a sixth outline level. Treat this count as an observation about your document structure, not a target to hit. Most pages never need a heading this deep, so there is no baseline number to reach — the right value is whatever your actual content hierarchy calls for.

Important considerations

  • The metric counts structure, not relevance or readability — a high H6 count says nothing about whether those headings help a reader.
  • Malformed or unusually large H6 markup may fall outside the parser’s bounds and go uncounted.
  • Zero can be entirely appropriate for most pages; a page with no H6 elements is not deficient.
  • Do not manufacture deep nesting to match a competitor’s count.
  • This is a correlation-based prioritization signal within a measured result set, not a lever that makes a page rank. It relates to position; it does not guarantee it.
