Has Ads

Has Ads is a boolean check for whether a page’s rendered body carries a recognizable Google, Amazon, or AdRoll advertising signature. It returns 1 when RankGear finds one of those fixed patterns and 0 when it does not — presence is neither inherently good nor bad, and a 0 does not prove the page runs no ads.

What it measures

Has Ads indicates whether RankGear recognizes a Google, Amazon, or AdRoll advertising signature on the page. It is a present-or-absent observation about a small set of known ad-network fingerprints — not a measure of how many ads a page runs or how disruptive they are.

How RankGear measures it

RankGear searches the rendered, script-free page body case-insensitively for a fixed Google ad-click URL, for amazon-adsystem.com, or for an AdRoll tracking URL. Any single match scores the factor 1; if none appear, it scores 0. Because the check keys on these specific signatures, ads served by other platforms or delivered through other methods can be missed.

What RankGear looks for

# Case-insensitive match on the rendered body; any one hit scores 1
googleads / doubleclick "aclk" ad-click URL -> Google
amazon-adsystem.com                           -> Amazon
adroll tracking URL                           -> AdRoll
ValueMeaning
1At least one Google, Amazon, or AdRoll advertising signature was found in the page body.
0None of the recognized signatures were found — which does not prove the page is ad-free.

How to optimize it

Treat this as an observation, not a target to raise or lower. Use advertising only when it supports the business model without obstructing content, trust, accessibility, privacy, or performance, and clearly distinguish ads from editorial material. The right level of advertising is a business and user-experience decision; this factor simply records whether a known signature is present.

Important considerations

  • Presence is not inherently positive or negative.
  • The factor does not measure ad quantity or intrusiveness.
  • Consent and disclosure obligations require separate review.
  • A zero does not prove the page is ad-free — unrecognized platforms and delivery methods can be missed.
  • This is a prioritization signal that relates to patterns within a measured result set, not a cause of ranking; a match neither makes a page rank nor guarantees a position.
