Variations in Sentences counts how many times your keyword’s variations appear inside substantive body sentences — those with at least four words. It is an occurrence count, not a measure of writing quality, and it tracks with position within a result set rather than causing a ranking.

What it measures
This factor counts keyword variations that occur in substantive sentences parsed from the page body. Instead of scoring the page as a whole, it looks at where your terminology actually lands in readable prose — the complete sentences a person would read — and totals how often variations of your keyword show up there.
How RankGear measures it
RankGear parses sentences from the script-free body, retains only those with at least four words, and independently sums case-insensitive whole-word variation matches within each sentence. Because matching is whole-word and case-insensitive, capitalization does not change the count, and matches are consumed per sentence: each qualifying sentence is tallied on its own before the totals are summed across the page.

How to optimize it
Use relevant terminology in complete, informative sentences that explain the topic, rather than relying on fragments or lists alone. Treat the resulting number as an observation of how naturally your subject is covered in prose — not a target to inflate. Pages that discuss their topic in full sentences tend to accumulate these matches on their own; forcing the count by repetition works against the natural-variation signal.
Important considerations
- Short sentences and fragments with fewer than four words can be excluded from the count.
- Match consumption resets for each sentence — matches are summed independently per sentence, so a single sentence cannot dominate the total.
- The factor does not measure sentence quality, readability, or relevance — only the occurrence of variations.
- Natural variation across the body matters more than repeating the same term.
- Correlation is not causation: this count relates to position within a measured result set and is a prioritization signal, not a guarantee that a page will rank.
