Number of Amazon Ads

Number of Amazon Ads is a whole-number tally of how many times a page references an Amazon advertising-system domain in its rendered body. Each reference counts whether or not an ad actually renders, so the number reflects how many ad-delivery hooks are wired into the page — not how many ads a reader sees.

What it measures

Number of Amazon Ads counts references to Amazon’s advertising-system domain in the page body. Where the companion presence check simply records that Amazon ad infrastructure is wired into the page, this factor tallies how many separate references appear — a proxy for how heavily the page leans on Amazon’s ad-delivery system. It counts references, not rendered impressions.

How RankGear measures it

RankGear counts case-insensitive occurrences of the string amazon-adsystem.com in the rendered, script-free page body. Every occurrence adds one to the total, whether or not an ad renders on screen — the same domain referenced across several scripts, iframes, or attributes is counted several times. The check stops at counting references; it does not verify that an ad displayed, that consent was gathered, where a placement sits, or whether any revenue was earned.

If the count is…How to read it
0No Amazon ad-system reference was found. Correct and expected on a page not meant to carry Amazon ads.
1A single reference — often one ad script or hook wired into the page.
SeveralMultiple references. May reflect several placements, or a single setup that references the domain across more than one script, iframe, or preconnect hint.

How to optimize it

Treat this as an observation about how the page is monetized, not a target to raise. Use the minimum advertising the business model genuinely needs, and protect content access, privacy, accessibility, and performance while you do. A higher count is not an optimization goal — more references can mean more third-party requests and heavier pages, not a better outcome. If the page is not meant to carry Amazon ads, 0 is the right result and there is nothing to fix.

Important considerations

  • The count is not the number of visible ads: it tallies domain references, and one placement can reference the domain more than once.
  • Dormant or leftover code can inflate the result — a reference still counts even when nothing renders.
  • More ads are not an optimization goal; read the number against the page’s purpose and its performance and privacy trade-offs.
  • The inherited display name for this factor contains a double space (“Number of Amazon Ads”); that is a label quirk, not a measurement detail.
  • Correlation is not causation: this count relates to position within a measured result set and is a prioritization signal, not a guarantee that changing the number will move rankings.
