What it measures

Is Pagination Page estimates whether a page’s content is divided across an ordered sequence of pages — the kind of “Page 1, 2, 3… Next” structure used to break long result sets, archives, or product listings into numbered segments. It does not judge whether that pagination is well built; it only estimates whether the page presents itself as part of a paged series.

How RankGear measures it

RankGear searches the complete rendered HTML for a fixed set of pagination patterns: rel-next markup, the word “page” followed by digits, next-page text, and numbered results, items, or products. If any pattern is found the factor returns 1; if none is found it returns 0.

How to optimize it

Treat this as an observation of what your markup signals, not a target to chase. Where pagination is real and intended, make it clean: give each page a crawlable, unique URL, provide clear next and previous navigation, keep canonicals consistent, and ensure every page carries useful content. Prevent unbounded filter combinations and duplicate parameter permutations that spawn thin, near-identical paged URLs. Where the factor reads 1 but you did not intend a paged series, the match is likely incidental prose — no fix is needed.

Important considerations

  • Ordinary prose can trigger the heuristic — text that merely mentions “page 2” or lists numbered items may match without any real pagination.
  • Presence of a match does not validate the pagination architecture; a 1 says a pattern exists, not that the paging is crawlable or correct.
  • Infinite scroll needs crawlable fallbacks (real paged URLs) where appropriate, or the sequence may be invisible to crawlers even when users see more content.
  • Do not add pagination to content that works better as a single page — splitting for its own sake helps no one.
  • This is a correlation-based prioritization signal within a measured result set, not a cause of ranking. It relates to position; it does not make a page rank.
