Rather than crawling the web for links itself, RankGear reads the figures Majestic already maintains — Trust Flow, Citation Flow, counts of external backlinks and referring domains, and the topical breakdown of where those links come from — and folds them into the comparison alongside the pages you are measuring against. In practice these numbers stand in for “how much link authority has this URL accumulated, and from what kind of sources,” which is why they sit in the authority and links side of the factor set rather than with on-page or content signals.
How to interpret it
Keep two things separate: whether the provider returned a value at all, and what that value says. A missing figure usually means Majestic had no coverage for that URL or the provider was not enabled for the run, not that the page has zero authority. When the numbers are present, read them comparatively — a page’s Trust Flow only means something next to the Trust Flow of the other pages measured under the same conditions. The individual metrics also answer different questions: Trust Flow leans on the quality of linking sources, Citation Flow on sheer link volume, and the two are most useful read together, since a high citation count paired with low trust often points to thin or low-quality links.
