What it means in RankGear

DataForSEO is one of the external providers you can connect under Settings → API keys. Once you enter its login and password, RankGear can call the provider during a run and bring back link and domain data — referring domains, backlink counts, and authority-style metrics — that gets folded into the entity and authority evidence for the pages you are measuring. It is a source of data, not a scoring engine: RankGear reads what the provider reports and lines it up alongside the other pages in the same comparison.

How to interpret it

Treat provider availability and the numbers it returns as two separate things. First, DataForSEO has to be enabled and authenticated for any of its columns to populate; an empty value can simply mean the provider was not connected for that run, not that a page has no links. Second, when you do read the values, only compare authority or entity evidence across pages that were measured under the same run conditions, so the figures are drawn from the same index at the same time. Numbers pulled from different providers or different runs are not interchangeable.

Example

Suppose you are working a competitive comparison for a ten-page keyword and you want link context on each competitor. You add your DataForSEO login and password under Settings → API keys and re-run. The comparison sheet now shows referring domains and backlink counts for every page in the set, so you can see that the two top-ranked results carry noticeably deeper referring-domain profiles than the pages below them — a pattern worth noting, alongside the on-page factors RankGear already measures.

Important considerations

  • DataForSEO metrics come from its own index and are reported on its own scale. They are comparative indicators for ranking pages against each other, not Google’s internal scores, and a higher provider number does not by itself cause a page to rank.
  • Because indexes and scales differ between providers, do not mix DataForSEO figures with values from another link provider in the same judgment — compare like with like, within one run.
  • The provider is only active when its credentials are entered and valid; without a connected key, its columns stay empty and no link data is added to the run.
