What it means in RankGear

SerpApi is one of the search-data providers you can wire into RankGear from Settings, under API keys and the provider selectors. With it selected, RankGear pulls the live search results it analyzes — Google organic listings and Google Maps entries — through SerpApi rather than another source. The calls run on your own SerpApi key, so the volume you fetch draws down that account’s plan, not RankGear’s.

How to interpret it

Results from SerpApi are only comparable when the request parameters match. Before you line up one run against another, confirm the provider, country, language, device, requested location, the depth you asked for (a Top 10 versus a Top 20), and whether the response came back complete. When two runs disagree, a mismatch in one of those settings — not a change in the page itself — is usually why.

Example

Suppose you want a Top 20 view of “emergency plumber” localized to Denver. A single localized pull at that depth may cost SerpApi several calls behind the scenes, but each of those calls has to carry the identical country, language, device, and location settings. Switch the location to “Colorado” partway through and the two halves of the ranking are no longer measuring the same search.

Important considerations

  • Search results change over time and by location, device, provider, and the personalization context of the request, so a SerpApi pull describes one moment and one configuration, not a fixed truth.
  • Different providers can return slightly different results for the same query. Treat SerpApi output as a comparative indicator of what a search looked like, not an official Google ranking or score.
  • Rate limits and billing belong to your SerpApi account — deep or heavily localized runs consume more of your quota.
