Target URL

The Target URL is the specific page you are optimizing or auditing in RankGear. It is the address the app treats as your page throughout a run, and RankGear keeps measuring it as yours even when it does not appear among the fetched ranking results.

What it means in RankGear

The Target URL is the page you point RankGear at when you start an Analysis Run or an On-Page Audit. It is the one address in the whole job that belongs to you rather than to the comparison set, and RankGear tags it as such so every on-page measurement, side-by-side view, and recommendation is anchored to that page. Because you supply it directly, RankGear does not need your page to be ranking in order to work on it: the app carries the Target URL into the comparison even when it is absent from the fetched result set, so you can audit a page that has not yet broken into the visible results.

How to interpret it

Treat the Target URL as an input you set, not a score the app returns. Before you read anything a run reports about your page, confirm that the address is exactly the page you mean to optimize, including protocol, trailing slash, and any parameters, because RankGear measures precisely what you gave it. If your target does not surface in the ranking results, that is not an error in the run; it means the app is holding your page alongside the competitors for on-page comparison rather than pulling it from the SERP. Judge the audit by whether the measured page is the right one and whether the comparison set around it is on-topic.

Example

A user starting an On-Page Audit enters “https://example.com/services/gutter-cleaning” as the Target URL for the keyword “gutter cleaning near me.” That page currently sits on the third results page and is not among the top-ranking results RankGear fetches. RankGear still measures it as the user’s page, laying its headings, word count, and on-page factors next to the pages that do rank, so the user can see exactly where the target trails the comparison set before it ever reaches page one.

Important considerations

  • The Target URL describes RankGear behavior and navigation. It is the page under analysis, not a ranking signal in its own right.
  • RankGear measures the exact address you enter, so a redirect, a stray parameter, or a wrong protocol can send the audit to a different page than you intended.
  • The comparisons drawn around your Target URL are correlations across the gathered pages, not Google’s scoring and not proof that matching a competitor will move your page. Measured values are indicators relative to that specific comparison set.
  • Because the target can be measured while absent from the ranking results, its factors tell you how it stacks up on-page, not whether it currently ranks.
