RankGear lowercases the parsed title and runs a case-insensitive, whole-word regular-expression search for free. It returns 1 when a whole-word match is found and 0 otherwise. The whole-word boundary is what matters here: the test matches the standalone word free but not longer words that merely contain those letters, so a title mentioning something like freelance or freedom does not trigger the detector.
