What it means in RankGear
When you import a delimited file into Bulk Runs, RankGear reads the first line and checks whether it looks like a header rather than data. If the leading row carries recognizable column labels — a cell named keyword, query, term, or similar — the app treats that row as structure and drops it from the queue. Everything below it becomes the actual list of keywords to run. The result is that a file exported from a spreadsheet or another tool can be dropped straight in without hand-editing the top row first.
How to interpret it
Read this as a convenience and a guard against wasted work, not as data cleaning. It only removes a single recognized header line; it does not deduplicate, trim, or validate the keywords underneath. If your file has no header, the first data row stays in the run as normal. If your first real keyword happens to match a common header label, review the queue before launching, because recognition works on the shape of that leading row. Confirm the imported count against what you expected so a skipped or unskipped line does not surprise you.
Example
You export 400 target queries from a spreadsheet, and the CSV opens with a row reading Keyword,Volume,Intent followed by 400 data rows. On import, RankGear recognizes that first line as a header and queues 400 keywords rather than 401. The word “Keyword” is never charged or analyzed as a search term, so your run count matches your intended list.
Important considerations
- Recognition covers a single standard header row; it is not a substitute for cleaning the file — blank lines, duplicates, and stray columns below the header are still yours to manage.
- A first data row that resembles a header label can be misread; verify the queued count before launching a large run.
- The safeguard affects which rows enter the run, not how any keyword is measured. It changes intake, not analysis, and it does not alter the underlying results in any way.
