How Digitaleer handles information for the RankGear website and desktop application — and why most of your work never leaves your machine.
1. Who we are
RankGear is desktop search-engine-optimization software published by Digitaleer (“Digitaleer,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), founded by Clint Butler. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect and how we use it across two things: the website at rankgear.com and the RankGear desktop application for macOS and Windows.
Questions about privacy? Reach us through our contact page or by email at privacy@rankgear.com.
2. The short version
RankGear is a local-first application. Your projects, the API keys you enter for third-party providers, and the reports RankGear generates are stored on your own device. We do not collect, transmit, or store your SEO project data or your provider keys on our servers. When RankGear fetches data, those requests go directly from your computer to the providers you have configured, billed to your own accounts. This website collects the limited information described below.
3. Information the website collects
- Contact submissions. If you contact us, we receive the information you send (such as your name, email address, and message) so we can respond and provide support.
- Usage and device data. Like most websites, our servers and any analytics we use may record standard information such as IP address, browser type, pages viewed, and referring pages. We use this in aggregate to understand traffic and improve the site.
- Cookies. We may use essential cookies for basic site function and, where applicable, privacy-respecting analytics cookies. You can control cookies through your browser settings.
4. Information the desktop application handles
- Stays on your device. Project files, keyword sets, crawl and analysis data, generated workbooks and reports, and any provider API keys you enter are stored locally on your computer. We do not receive copies of them.
- Third-party providers you connect. RankGear works with data, search, and AI providers that you choose and authenticate with your own keys. Requests to those providers are sent directly from your machine, and any actions are billed to your accounts with them. Their handling of your data is governed by their own terms and privacy policies.
- Licensing and updates. The application may communicate with the app store it was installed from (Apple App Store or Microsoft Store) to validate your license and deliver updates, and — only if you opt in — may send anonymous diagnostic information to help us fix crashes and improve stability.
5. Purchases and subscriptions
RankGear is distributed through the Apple App Store and the Microsoft Store. Purchases, subscriptions, and billing are handled by those platforms under their own terms and privacy policies. We do not receive or store your payment-card details.
6. How we use information
- To operate, secure, and improve the website and the application.
- To respond to your inquiries and provide support.
- To send information you have requested, such as replies or, where you have opted in, product updates. You can opt out at any time.
- To comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.
We do not sell your personal information.
7. Sharing
We share personal information only with service providers who help us operate the website (for example, hosting or email delivery), when required by law, or as part of a business transfer. Any such providers are bound to handle information consistent with this policy.
8. Data retention
We keep website and contact information only as long as needed for the purposes described here or as required by law. Data stored by the desktop application remains on your device under your control; you can delete it at any time.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. To exercise these rights, contact us through our contact page. We will respond consistent with applicable law, including the GDPR and CCPA/CPRA where they apply.
10. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information under our control. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, and the security of data on your own device also depends on how you protect that device.
11. Children
RankGear is a professional tool intended for business use and is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date above and, for material changes, provide a more prominent notice.
