What it means in RankGear
DomDetailer is not a metric RankGear calculates on its own; it is an external service you authorize under Settings → API keys by supplying a key. Once connected, RankGear can pull DomDetailer’s link and authority data for the URLs in a run and fold it into the off-page columns of a comparison sheet. That data typically covers referring domains, backlink volume, and domain- and page-level authority estimates, letting you see how the pages you are studying stack up on link signals alongside the on-page factors RankGear measures directly.
How to interpret it
Keep two things separate when you read DomDetailer figures: whether the provider was enabled for the run, and what the numbers themselves say. If the key is missing or a lookup fails, the off-page columns are simply empty for those rows — an absent value is not a low score. When the data is present, compare authority and link figures only among pages pulled under the same run conditions, so you are reading like against like rather than mixing a fresh crawl with stale cached values.

Important considerations
- DomDetailer draws on its own link index and scoring scale; its authority numbers are comparative indicators, not Google’s assessment of a page, and a higher score does not by itself make a page rank.
- A link-count gap between your page and higher-ranking pages is a correlation observed across the pages in the run, not proof that adding links will move you up. Correlation is not causation.
- Because it is a paid external provider, DomDetailer only returns data when a valid API key is set and the service is reachable; empty off-page columns usually mean the provider was unavailable, not that the metric is zero.
- Different link providers count links and referring domains differently, so DomDetailer figures are not directly interchangeable with numbers from another tool.
