Zone Coverage

Zone Coverage is the percentage of a Zone Architecture profile’s required responsibilities that RankGear actually found on the page. A profile lists the structural roles a page of that type should fill; coverage reports how many of them are present.

What it means in RankGear

Zone Architecture treats a page as a set of named zones, each responsible for a specific job — the primary heading, the intro answer, the main body, supporting media, internal links, and so on. Every profile defines which of those responsibilities are marked required. When RankGear runs the Zone Architecture review, it inspects the rendered page for each required zone and records whether it was found. Zone Coverage is the resulting fraction: required responsibilities located, divided by required responsibilities defined, expressed as a percentage. A page that satisfies eleven of a profile’s twelve required zones reports roughly 92% coverage.

How to interpret it

Read coverage as a completeness check against the selected profile, not as a quality score. The figure only tells you whether each required zone was detected — it does not judge how well that zone is executed. Confirm both presence and implementation in the rendered page, because a zone can register as present while its content is empty, duplicated across the template, blocked from crawlers, or too thin to do its job. Treat a shortfall as a list of missing responsibilities to review one by one, and always interpret the number relative to the profile you chose: the same page can score differently under a stricter or looser profile.

Coverage readingWhat it tells you
100%Every required zone for the profile was detected in the rendered page.
Below 100%One or more required zones were missing; the gap names which responsibilities to check.
Present but weakA zone counted toward coverage yet is empty, duplicated, blocked, or semantically thin on inspection.

Example

Suppose you review a product landing page against a profile whose required zones include an H1, a lead answer paragraph, a primary image with alt text, and a comparison table. RankGear parses the rendered DOM, finds the H1, the lead paragraph, and the image, but no comparison table, and reports 75% coverage — three of four required zones. The review flags the missing table so you can decide whether that page type genuinely needs one before you act.

Important considerations

  • Coverage measures presence against a chosen profile; a different profile changes what counts as required and therefore the percentage.
  • Detection is not evaluation — a zone can be found yet be empty, duplicated, crawler-blocked, or too weak to serve its purpose, so verify implementation in the rendered page.
  • The review reads the rendered DOM, so zones injected or hidden by client-side rendering may be scored differently than a raw HTML view would suggest.
  • Satisfying required zones improves structure, accessibility, and machine readability, but structural completeness is a comparative indicator, not a Google ranking score, and does not by itself cause a page to rank.
