About RankGear

Why RankGear shows its work

A recommendation you can’t inspect isn’t evidence — it’s a guess with better production values. RankGear was built to end the guessing: measure the pages actually winning a query, then show the data behind every call it makes.

RankGear is evidence-led desktop SEO software for macOS and Windows, built by Digitaleer and led by founder Clint Butler. It measures the pages winning a query — the field — places your page inside that field, and turns the gap into an auditable, prioritized plan you can defend to a client, a writer, or a developer.

Where it came from

Built from the practitioner’s frustration, not a feature list

RankGear grew out of the SEO work at Digitaleer — and out of a specific frustration with the tools that work was done with. Most of them hand you a grade: a score, a color, a “severity,” with no visible reason behind it. When a client asks why that change matters, a number you can’t open is worthless. You end up defending a tool’s opinion instead of your own analysis.

So RankGear was designed backwards from that moment. Every figure it reports can be opened: the correlation, the usage across the competing pages, the target, the deficit, the Factor ID, and the source it came from. The goal was never to be the most confident tool in the room — it was to be the one whose numbers survive a hard question.

What we believe

Four commitments the software has to keep

Evidence over the black-box grade
Every recommendation carries its reasoning — the correlation (r) within the measured result set, how the winning pages use the factor, the target, and the deficit between your page and that target. If a number can’t be defended, it shouldn’t drive a decision.
Correlation is a compass, not a promise
A correlation tells you where to look and what to prioritize inside the field you measured. It is never a claim about Google’s algorithm, a factor “weight,” or a guaranteed ranking. We would rather be trusted than impressive.
Keep the history so teams learn
Stable Factor IDs let Diff and Trends compare the same measurement across runs, so what you learn compounds instead of getting overwritten the next time you analyze the page.
Your data stays yours
Reports are local files on your machine, and analysis runs on your own external-provider accounts. Your work — and your clients’ data — never has to live in someone else’s cloud.
The line we won’t cross: correlation is evidence for prioritization, not a ranking guarantee. RankGear will never tell you it can “crack the algorithm” or make a page rank — because evidence can’t honestly promise that.

In the software

What “evidence-led” means once you run it

RankGear catalogues 870 factors across 22 families and measures 856 of them on a standard run, at the result depth you choose (Top 10 through Top 100). It reads the competitive field for your exact query, location, language, and device — then places your page against it and reports the gap as work, not as a verdict. The same shared analysis and reporting engine runs on macOS and Windows, so a team gets one method across everyone’s machines.

The field

The real result set winning your query now — measured, not assumed — so “what good looks like” is grounded in evidence rather than a generic checklist.

The auditable plan

Findings ordered by correlation strength and deficit, each traceable to its Factor ID, target, and source, and shaped by Zone Architecture into a plan you can hand off.

The run history

Timestamped workbooks with stable Factor IDs, so Diff and Trends show what actually changed between runs and progress is something you can prove.

Every one of those numbers has a method behind it. If you want the mechanics — how the factors are measured, how deficits and the optimization score are calculated, and where correlation ends and interpretation begins — that lives on the Methodology page.

Who it’s for

Built for people who have to defend their plans

RankGear fits SEO consultants and agencies, in-house teams, content strategists, local specialists, and technical researchers — anyone who has to explain why a change matters and stand behind the answer. It standardizes analysis across people, pages, clients, and locations without flattening the reasoning underneath.

It is deliberately not a “rank in 30 days” button, and it isn’t a live cloud rank-tracker. If what you need is a hosted dashboard that pings you when a position moves, a tracker fits better. RankGear is for the decision before that — what to change on the page, and the evidence to back it.

Who’s behind it

Made by Digitaleer

RankGear is a product of Digitaleer, an SEO and web-design company founded by Clint Butler. Editorial responsibility for this website, its documentation, and the testing results we publish sits with the RankGear team at Digitaleer. When we cite a number, we show where it comes from — the same standard the software holds itself to.
