Search Result Has Rating

Search Result Has Rating is a boolean flag (0 / 1) that reports whether the SERP provider’s result data for a ranking URL included a positive average rating value. A 1 means a rating was observed in the provider’s response for that result; it does not inspect your page’s own review markup and cannot be forced — the search engine decides when rating enhancements appear.

What it measures

This factor reports whether the search-result data collected for a ranking URL contains a positive average rating value. A value of 1 means a rating was observed in the provider’s result data; a value of 0 means no positive rating value was available. It is a SERP observation rather than an on-page HTML measurement — it describes what was returned for that result at the time of the run, not what markup lives on the page.

How RankGear measures it

RankGear reads the average rating value associated with each result from the configured SERP provider. If that value is greater than 0, the factor returns 1; otherwise it returns 0. The check does not inspect the page’s review markup directly, and it does not distinguish between a true absence of a displayed rating and a provider response that simply omitted the rating field. Separate factors report the actual rating value and review count where those data are available.

ValueMeaning
1A positive average rating value was present in the provider’s result data for this URL.
0No positive rating value was available — either none was displayed, or the provider response omitted the field.

How to optimize it

Treat this as an observation to interpret, not a target to hit — search engines decide whether and when rating enhancements appear, so a site cannot force a 1. When ratings are appropriate for the page type, use accurate, policy-compliant review or aggregate-rating structured data that matches visible information, build legitimate customer-review processes, keep displayed values current, and follow the eligibility rules for the relevant search feature. Use the result mainly to inspect how competitors present ratings in the same result set.

Important considerations

  • Valid markup does not guarantee that a rating will be shown.
  • Search appearance can change by query, location, device, time, and search-engine testing.
  • Provider coverage can affect whether RankGear receives a rating value at all, so a 0 is not proof that no rating exists.
  • Never create fake reviews, self-serving ratings that violate policy, or markup that contradicts visible content.
  • This is a presence signal that tracks with a result set, not a cause of ranking — compare it with the actual rating value, review count, schema, and result-type factors.
