Variations in Absolute URLs

Variations in Absolute URLs counts how many times your run’s keyword variations appear inside the absolute http:// and https:// URLs found in a page’s script-free body HTML. It reads the URL strings only — not anchor text, destination content, or link authority — so treat a higher count as an observation that relates to, never causes, position within a measured result set.

What it measures

This factor counts keyword-variation matches across the absolute HTTP and HTTPS URLs found in a page’s script-free body. Every absolute link destination — whether it points to an internal page or an external site — contributes its URL string to the scan, and the factor tallies how many of the run’s keyword variations appear inside those strings.

How RankGear measures it

RankGear extracts every absolute http:// or https:// URL from bodyNoScripts — the body HTML with <script> blocks removed — and sums the run’s variation matches across those URL strings. Relative URLs are not included, and the count is a raw sum, so a variation appearing in several URLs adds to the total each time.

Absolute https:// or http:// URLYes — its variation matches are summed
Relative URL (e.g. /topic/)No
URL inside a <script> blockNo — scripts are stripped before parsing

How to optimize it

Use descriptive, stable URLs for the internal and external destinations you genuinely link to, and link only where it helps the reader. Do not add keyword-bearing URLs or extra links solely to raise this count — it is best read as an observation about how your linked destinations are named, not a target to inflate. Padding the body with keyword-stuffed links serves the metric, not the user, and can undermine the page.

Important considerations

  • The factor evaluates URL strings, not anchor text, destination content, link authority, or link quality.
  • Repeated URLs and repeated matches can increase the value — the same variation in the same URL counts each time it appears.
  • Only extracted absolute HTTP(S) URLs count; relative URLs do not.
  • The run’s generated variation set determines what can match, so the same page can score differently across runs with different variation sets.
  • Correlation is not causation: this is a prioritization signal that relates to position within a measured result set, not a lever that makes a page rank.
