Title Has Top

Title Has Top checks whether the page’s document title contains the whole word “top” — returning 1 when it does and 0 when it doesn’t. It is a presence flag only: the word’s appearance says nothing about whether the page is actually the best answer, so treat it as an observation about title language, not a target to game.

What it measures

This factor reports whether the parsed document title contains the whole word top. It is a single yes/no signal about the language of your title — a common superlative used in list and ranking headlines such as “Top 10” framing — and nothing more. It does not count how many times the word appears, weigh where it sits in the title, or judge whether the claim is warranted.

How RankGear measures it

RankGear lowercases the parsed title and runs a case-insensitive, whole-word regular-expression search for top. It returns 1 when the whole word is found and 0 otherwise. Because the match is bounded to a whole word, the search keys on top standing on its own, not on the letters appearing inside a longer word.

ValueMeaning
1The whole word “top” is present somewhere in the parsed title.
0The word “top” is not present as a standalone word in the title.

How to optimize it

Use “top” only when it truthfully and specifically describes the page’s value. Make the title genuinely useful to searchers, back the claim up in the content, and avoid formulaic clickbait. Treat this reading as an observation about your title’s language rather than a score to chase — if the word doesn’t honestly fit the page, adding it changes the flag but not the page’s merit.

Important considerations

  • This is a binary detector; repeated uses of the word do not increase the value.
  • Whole-word boundaries prevent ordinary longer words from matching.
  • Presence does not establish quality, accuracy, or ranking benefit.
  • Compare competitive evidence, but never make unsupported claims solely to change this score — the flag correlates with a style of title, it does not cause a page to rank.
