Number of Facebook Pages counts how many Facebook page URLs appear in a page’s rendered HTML — a plain tally of matching link text, not a count of distinct, verified, or active social profiles.

What it measures
This factor tallies Facebook URL paths on the page. It looks for a facebook.com address whose path optionally begins with pages/ and is then followed by a word-or-hyphen identifier, and returns how many such paths are present.
How RankGear measures it
RankGear runs a case-insensitive regular-expression scan across the rendered HTML (with scripts removed) for the facebook.com/[pages/]<identifier> form and returns the number of matches. Every occurrence of the pattern is counted separately, so a URL that appears more than once contributes more than one to the total.
What RankGear looks for
Matches:
facebook.com/pages/Acme-Widgets
facebook.com/acme-widgets
Pattern (case-insensitive):
facebook\.com/(pages/)?[\w-]+How to optimize it
Link to the organization’s genuine Facebook page where it is maintained and relevant to the content. Treat the number itself as a structural observation, not a target to inflate — adding more Facebook URLs is not evidence that a page will rank better.
Important considerations
- This counts matching URL text, not distinct, verified, active social profiles or successful shares.
- Repeated matches are counted separately, so the same URL appearing several times raises the count.
- The detector follows a specific legacy URL shape, so other valid Facebook URL forms may be missed and look-alike text may be counted.
- Correlation is not causation: this is a prioritization signal that relates to position within a measured result set, not a lever that makes a page rank.
