What RankGear measures

RankGear catalogues 870 factors across 22 families and measures 856 on a standard run, each tested for how it correlates with position across the field for your query. A few factors are minted at runtime and depend on the page set, so the exact count can vary slightly by run.

The 22 families

Factors are grouped by what they describe. The largest families reflect where measurable signal lives on modern result pages:

  • Structured data · JSON-LD (269) and MicroData (49), MicroFormat (24), Schema.org (28)
  • Keyword usage & density (101)
  • Headings (51) and Search result / SERP (51)
  • Social signals (39), Tech & platform (34), Affiliate & ads (31)
  • Size & length (25), Links on the page (24), Meta tags (24)
  • Backlinks & authority (23), Title (21), Entities (19)
  • Readability & questions (16), Related terms / LSI (11), Trust & contact signals (10)
  • Page structure (9), Media & embeds (8), URL & domain (3)

Why the count is honest, not marketing

A large catalogue is only useful if the numbers stay comparable. Every factor maps to a stable Factor ID, so a run in March and a run in June measure the same thing — which is what lets Diff and Trends show real movement instead of re-derived noise.

Correlation, not causation. Measuring 870 factors doesn’t mean maximizing all of them. Most matter for some queries and not others; RankGear shows which ones track position in your field, and by how much.

For the full method — correlation, deficit strategies, and boundaries — see the methodology page. In the app, “What RankGear measures” writes the complete factor reference as its own report.
